Meet the Team
 RobertaRoberta, our Business Manager, has worked with the practice since the very beginning, mainly because she is married to Dr. Joiner! That gives her that most-feared title, "Boss's Wife," but she fits in well as a friend and confidante to all. These days Roberta mostly works behind the scenes doing such things as payroll, employee paperwork, errands for the office and other miscellaneous necessities. Roberta was a Voice major in college and we love it when she is here to join in singing on brace-removal days! Besides the natural beauty that she brings to our office, Roberta is a gourmet vegan cook, does quilting for injured soldiers, enjoys golfing, swimming, reading, and taking good care of those three Portuguese water dogs and cat she and Mark are owned by. |
 VictoriaVictoria is our New Patient Coordinator, and has the gift of immediately making our new guests feel at home. She is a real pro at working with our new patients, explaining the many aspects of treatment, setting up the appointments for getting treatment started, and generally being the "best friend" of our new patients. Victoria has a wacky sense of humor and is clearly a "people person." She loves getting to know new people and we are certain that you will come to rely upon Victoria the way we do. Victoria joined our office in 1997 as a talented and cheerful chairside assistant, but she's really thrived in her position of New Patient Coordinator. Victoria says she most enjoys the support from and high morale of our entire team. In and out of the office she is a good joke teller and loves to laugh. She lives in Watsonville with her husband (and best friend) Steve, and their son Keiran. They enjoy traveling whenever they have a chance. Victoria enjoys tennis, softball and the time inside and outside of the office that she gets to spend with the other members of our team. Victoria says that being a mom is still her best accomplishment! |
 KarenKaren joined our office in 2005 as our fabulous Financial Coordinator. Our patients have been very impressed with Karen's ability to communicate and help them understand financial options and considerations. We knew she would be a perfect fit for our office! She has a great sense of humor and you'll hear her infectious laughter throughout the office. Prior to joining our team Karen was already familiar with Dr. Joiner's orthodontic talent as her two children were patients prior to her coming aboard our team. Karen and her husband live happily in Aptos. She enjoys time with her family and dogs. She is an expert seamstress, gardener, and loves to design mosaics. |
 CarolThe minute you walk through the door of our office you will be greeted by Carol's cheerful smile. Carol joined our practice as our lead Scheduling Coordinator in January of 2000 and brings over 20 years of experience in dentistry and excellent patient care to her position. Carol's background in dentistry makes her a perfect fit! Carol also had braces in our office as an adult and can help you understand the benefits of orthodontics at any age. Carol and her husband, Randy, have two beautiful daughters, Amanda and Lisa. Their family enjoys water skiing, camping and house boating most of the year (bad weather doesn't scare them off!). Besides spending lots of time with her family, Carol enjoys cooking and going on walks with her two Jack Russell Terriers, Jenny and Sassy, and her Pug, Tilly. Carol is quite the humanitarian, volunteers for Meals on Wheels, and is looking forward to some day assisting in the placement of abandoned dogs. |
 KerryKerry has been an extremely talented chairside orthodontic assistant with Dr. Joiner since 1987 and has been in the orthodontic field since 1970! Kerry is a warm and generous person who loves getting to know our patients on a personal level, yet also enjoys the process of creative problem solving. She lives in Corralitos in a house with a gorgeous view and land with great trails that she walks with her labs, Sophie and Berkeley. Kerry enjoys collecting antiques and vintage items, also enjoys reading, making pique assiste pieces and other crafty things. She has 3 grown children, Jolee, Jeff and Brody. Kerry also loves volunteering in her daughter's classroom (Ms. Gies) at Main Street Elementary School on Fridays. |
 TaraTara joined our office in 2002 and has been in orthodontics since 1993. She is a bright and charming chairside assistant who is sure to win you over the moment you meet her. She brings valuable experience and training to our office. At her home in Scotts Valley, Tara likes to spend time with her beautiful daughter, Leeann. Her favorite activities include playing with Leeann, taking walks, fishing, cooking, and watching movies. She also loves to collect everything and anything purple, having her nails done, and being pampered in general. In the "it's a small world" category it just so happens that Tara and Victoria (our terrific New Patient Coordinator) went to junior high together. We're sure they were model students. |
 HopeHope is one of our amazing chairside assistants. We are sure you will enjoy her exuberant, fun, charming, caring nature if you get a chance to be in her chair. Hope has been in the orthodontic field for over 20 years (you wouldn't know that by looking at her!). She lives is Aptos (and is a graduate of Aptos High School) with her five children and her husband, Mark. Hope enjoys spending time with her kids, family, friends, and her dog, Princess (who has an underbite that she won't let Dr. Joiner fix). Hope also enjoys watching her pet chickens. Whenever possible she will golf, enjoy fine dining, and getaway on a weekend golf/spa package. She also loves to spend time gardening and entertaining at home. Mostly Hope loves to spend time with her family. |
 EsmeraldaEsmeralda joined our office in 2002 and has been in orthodontics since 2000. As our records technician and chairside assistant, she does a fantastic job of taking impressions of the teeth for study models and appliances. She also takes x-rays and digital photographs; much of this is used by Dr. Joiner in completing the diagnosis and treatment plan. Because of her outgoing personality, great smile and a wry sense of humor she blends perfectly into her role of working with many different patients throughout the day. Esmeralda enjoys spending time with her fiancé, Tyrone, their beautiful daughter Mary, and their dogs, Ruby and Lilly. Her hobbies include collecting all things Disney, the beach, and being a mom. |
 SallyWe are thrilled to have Sally rejoin our office. She originally worked here in the mid-1990s and came back in 2004. She is a warm and caring chairside assistant who will make you comfortable the moment you sit down. Her smile and exuberant laugh make her an easy favorite among patients. Sally lives in Aromas with her husband Matt and two very sweet children, Austin and Paige. Sally really enjoys spending time with her family! Together they enjoy camping at the lake, wakeboarding and just spending time together. Sally enjoys spending time at the gym to stay fit and active. |
 MonicaMonica joined our team in July of 2000. She works in our lab and clinic as a Laboratory and Sterilization Technician and as an assistant's assistant. Because of her thorough and careful attitude she is a great asset to our office. She is family oriented and has 2 beautiful small children, Leslie and Raymond, in addition to her husband, Jose. Together they all love soccer and family adventures at the park. We are proud to have Monica's warm and charming personality on our outstanding team. |
 LeahLeah started working in our office in 2007 as a records technician and lab expert. Leah is one of the sweetest, most generous and enthusiastic people you will ever meet! She loves fishing, tennis, hiking, gardening, the beach, and time with her dog Oden. Leah lives in La Selva Beach and intends to become an R.N. (though we NEVER want to see her leave!). |
 RosaRosa, like Sally, was on our team a few years ago, then moved away. Now she's back! Rosa now spends most of her time working in an off-site laboratory on a special laboratory technique that Dr. Joiner has developed to ensure more precise placement of braces. Rosa has a great work ethic, a fun sense of humor and a beautiful smile! |
 ChristineWe are thrilled to have Christine with us again, after she was out of the area for 12 years. She was a wonderful Scheduling Coordinator back in the 90’s; now she has returned to Santa Cruz and has rejoined our Team as our Professional Relations Coordinator-- the liaison between the patient, our office and the patient’s dentist. You will also find her big smile and hearty laugh behind the front desk, assisting Carol with scheduling and performing a myriad of other tasks. In her free time, Christine enjoys creating stained glass art, camping, fly fishing, and mountain biking. She lives in Capitola and is happy to be back in the area and close to her parents and family. |
